Questions people ask
How many board feet is 100 square feet?
It depends on the plank size. For ¾ inch by 5½ inch 1×6 stock, 100 square feet is about 34.4 board feet. For ¾ inch by 2¼ inch flooring it is about 18.7 board feet.
How do I convert board feet to square feet?
Square feet = board feet × 144 ÷ (thickness in × width in). For ¾ × 5½ stock that is board feet × 27.9.
What is the standard board foot to square foot factor for flooring?
About 3.4 to 3.5 board feet per square foot is standard for ¾ inch solid hardwood. Engineered flooring is often quoted differently because the wear layer is thinner.
Why do lumber yards quote board feet for hardwood only?
Hardwood is milled to fixed thickness and width and sold by volume, so board feet is a fair unit. Dimension lumber at the lumber yard is priced per linear foot per piece, so board feet is only used for pricing comparison.
